Selected mostly because it was on my credit card’s rewards program, I still enjoyed my dinner here this evening. The service was great and the gent who took my order let me know that if I intended to sit at the bar, that there was no need to wait in line at the register. So that’s good info to have.
The restaurant isn’t particularly fancy, If you’ve been to a Dickie’s, you’ll understand the pay and order at the register configuration. Sauces and condiments available at a self-serve area, which was well cared for and tidy this evening.
I chose the pulled pork platter, which arrived with a very large portion of pork in medium sized pulled pieces. Moist, but without a whole lot of flavor. As much as I’m not one to put sauces on my barbecue, this one definitely needed a little bit.
For sides, the cole slaw was good. Not wet or mushy, the cabbage was crisp and tasty. The collards were well done in a sauce and they needed more vinegar to bring out the taste.
As I’m on a keto diet, this was mostly good for me. I chose to skip the Texas toast but the barbecue sauce definitely didn’t help. They have some local beers on tap as well as bottled macros.
I’ll return to Willie Jewel’s, maybe to try something other than the pulled pork. High quantity and good prices.
