Proper North Carolina barbecue going on here, you’ll likely not find a more old-school joint anywhere in the vicinity. Located along the US highway and about ten minutes from I-85, it looks as if it was once the restaurant for the motor lodge. No slight intended at all.
Inside, the smell of cooked barbecue is excellent and if you can grab a seat at the counter, do so. Friendly service and more interactive than over at the tables and booths.
I chose the standard barbecue platter, which comes with a whole lot of carbs that I mostly ignored. Chopped pork, excellent fries, red slaw, baked beans and a big basket of hand made hush puppies. The pork was tender and sauced well, quite flavorful. Baked beans were okay, fries and hush puppies were both excellent and I’m sorry that I couldn’t eat more of them due to my keto diet.
Great price and a very filling meal. I’m glad I detoured to Red Bridges.
