Alligator Alley, Fort Lauderdale, FL (1-5-2019)

My first time driving across in many years, this is a very nice and easy stretch of road. Very flat, very smooth, very straight for 75 or so miles.

There are a couple of rest areas along the way and “recreational area” stops. The former have bathrooms and vending machines, the latter do not. There are no gas stations along the way, so be prepared.

The road is definitely patrolled by marked and unmarked Florida Highway Patrol cars, so keep your speed reasonable. I think that there are also “road ranger” roadside assistance patrols. Good cell coverage for my phone the entire way.

Tolls run around $3.25 in each direction for a regular vehicle with a discount for drivers with SunPass. The transponder lanes are wide enough that you only need to slow to 25 or 30 miles per hour.

I like highways like this. It would be better at three lanes as there are plenty of slow drivers that are hard to pass, but it is what it is.
