I can see why Gus’s fried chicken is world famous. It’s excellent!
A brief wait for a table, the line was nicely managed and I was seated promptly after a table was made vacant and cleaned immediately. They’re clearly interested in turning over tables here!
I looked over the menu but decided to go right to the day’s special: Two chicken breasts with slaw and beans for $8.75. I did substitute collard greens for the beans for an extra $1.00.
Not too much longer, my lunch arrived. The breasts are large but not overly so and the batter is light. Fully cooked, it was delicious. Cole slaw was average – creamy and finely chopped. The collard greens were light on vinegar and also tasty. The bottle of hot sauce of the table was perfect to give the chicken just a little kick to really bring out the flavor.
Good service, great lunch, fantastic price. World famous, deserved.
