Randy M. Pendleton Memorial Bridge, Mount Holly, NC (12-1-2018)

There are a number of crossings over the Catawba River, including one that carries I-85. This one in Mount Holly is for US-27 and is a perfectly functional four lane flat bridge with no pedestrian or bicycle lane. Smooth enough and a few dozen feet above the river.

The bridge is named for a local police officer who was killed on duty in 1979. Patrolman Randy Michael Pendleton was with the Gaston County Police Department. Mount Holly is in Gaston County.

It’s an okay bridge. The neighboring railroad trestle is quite picturesque though you will need to go a little bit to find a place to park.
